Band will get your motor runnin’

Steppenwolf has had a turbulent ride since its emergence in the 1960’s, with clashing personalities, multiple break-ups and four dozen band members. However, the band that’s responsible for eight gold albums, and three iconic top-10 hits, including “Born to Be Wild” and “Magic Carpet Ride,” has a new incarnation.

Greenbank's ready to roll with Logie Fest

Since the days when Whidbey Island’s Greenbank Farm was the nation's largest loganberry farm, locals and visitors alike have been celebrating the fruit’s harvest with an annual festival, know as the Loganberry Festival. The patch of loganberries may be down to a mere half acre, but the festival scheduled or Saturday and Sunday, July 25 and 26, lives on in all its splendor. There is a requested donation per car for parking, but the event is free to the public.

Fifty-plus volunteers needed for Loganberry Festival

The planning committee for the annual Loganberry Festival at the Greenbank Farm is looking for volunteers to help put the event together. Over 50 volunteers are needed, according to event chair Art Herrera, doing chores that range from putting up posters or acting as cashiers, to directing traffic for parking or doing trash pick up.

Wharfest paddles into Coupeville

Boats of all sizes will be on display this weekend as the Coupeville Wharfest takes place. Now in its third year, Wharfest will feature everything from kayaks to sailboats. There’s even a chance a hovercraft will show up for the weekend’s festivities.

Cast picked for ‘Seussical’ production

The Whidbey Playhouse has filled out its cast for its debut of “Seussical, the Musical” coming this July.

Zombies try out at Playhouse tonight

Auditions for the Musical “Zombies from the Beyond” are being held at the Whidbey Playhouse, 730 SE Midway Blvd in Oak Harbor. The show will be auditioning Monday and Tuesday, June 15 to 16, at 7 p.m. and will be in rehearsal until opening Sept. 5. The show will run weekends in September, closing Oct. 3.
