Mustangs hold off surging Newport | Prep basketball roundup

Playing in a big 4A Kingco game Tuesday night at home, the Mustangs finished with a flourish, scoring 30 fourth-quarter points, to hold off the surging Knights, 72-63. Redmond struggled in the first half and was trailing 27-22, before overtaking Newport in the third and answering the Knights shot-for-shot in the shootout fourth-quarter that saw a total of 55 points put on the board.

Redmond REI to host Rainier climbing class

The REI store in Redmond Town Center invites new and experienced climbers alike to attend a free class, "The Basics of Climbing Mount Rainier," from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. The class will be taught by members of the Climb to Fight Breast Cancer and will teach attendees how they can summit the Pacific Northwest's most famous mountain.

Crossfire Select O'Melia wins league title

The Redmond-based Crossfire Select Boys U-17 O'Melia team recently won the North Puget Sound League Gold Division 1 title, beating seven other select teams from around the region. O'Melia finished with a record of 9-2-1 on the year, barely edging out Crossfire Select Johnson (9-1-2) by one team point. O'Melia scored 42 goals this season while allowing just seven.

Dunn hits game-winner for Lady Mustangs over Garfield | Prep basketball report

After a trying season so far, the Redmond High girls' basketball team (2-9 in 4A Kingco, 6-11 overall) was all smiles on Saturday afternoon after a thrilling 56-54 win over Garfield that was decided at the buzzer. With 10.1 seconds left, Garfield had tied the game on a pair of free throws, and sophomore guard Kelsey Dunn drove the lane and laid the ball in as the clock was winding down to secure the victory.

Redmond gymnasts hang tough against defending state champs

In a ultra-tough 4A Kingco gymnastics meet last Thursday night against Skyline, Issaquah and defending 4A champion Newport, the Mustangs finished third in the group with 142.3 points, behind Issaquah (152.75) and Newport (171.25).

Redmond boys bounce back, hold off Eagles: Team plays Garfield on Saturday

After Tuesday night’s brutal 60-56 loss to No. 3 Skyline, the Redmond High boys’ basketball needed a bounce-back win Wednesday against Issaquah on the Eagles’ home court. And they got it. Redmond held a 26-16 lead into halftime before the Eagles clawed their way back and eventually took the lead briefly in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs were able to come up with clutch shots down the stretch to secure a key 58-52 Kingco 4A win.

At Tuesday night's Bear Creek basketball game against Rainier Christian, the Junior Mustangs got to play the Junior Grizzlies during a special halftime exhibition, with the youngsters getting a taste of what high school basketball is like firsthand.

The Redmond High wrestling team evened its season meet record at 8-8 with a 4A Kingco league win over Garfield Wednesday night. Highlights for the Mustangs included four pins: Matt Amaral (113) over Janey Dahlgren in 3 minutes, 28 seconds, Bryan LaPierre (138) over Aiden Nuttall in 2:40, Eli Grady (145) over Tim Lu in 3:00, and Sean Donovan (195) over Brian Lam in 1:35.

One League for Everyone hosting fundraising fair

One League for Everyone (OLE), a Redmond-based nonprofit that assists low-income families within the Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association (LWYSA) with soccer fees and equipment costs, will be hosting a Fun Fair fundraiser this weekend.
