A guest columnist for the Seattle P.I., Anthony Robinson, recently wrote an article on the top 10 “markers of integrity.” I believe there are two principle marks of integrity that relate to the recent vandalism by a few of our youth on Bainbridge Island.

Neighbor: Don't overreact in punishing vandals | Bainbridge Letters to the Editor

The recently announced arrest of two of the senior “paint night vandals” prompts me to write. Sam Bice and Colin Bowman are my neighbors. On the assumption that they were among the culprits, I am sad for them, for their parents and siblings, and for their friends. They are both good young men who are apparently guilty of serious lapses of judgment. Whatever the combination of events that led them to commit these acts, there is no reasonable justification, and there must be consequences. I just hope this community doesn’t allow those consequences to get out of hand.

Project worthy of time, money

I would like to address Rob Clark’s question (“A curmudgeonly view of muddling,” June 21), “…why are we spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to restore the Yeomalt Cabin when there are homeless people on the street?”

U.S. government doing whatever it can get away with

I have to ask Dean Jenniges just why we are in this Iraq war. Too much Fox News! What threat did they pose other than the Israeli agenda? That is why they hate us! They were not responsible for 9/11! Bush was given his marching orders and he followed their orders to the tee.

Some Bremerton red light-runners should file suit

Throughout April and May, the vast majority of red-light camera tickets were written for running the red light in the southbound right-turn only lane at the corner of 16th and Warren. At least one traffic light camera reviewer believed the absence of a turn arrow light could possibly constitute a free right turn for this lane. Seeing an enormous revenue stream drying up, the city took action to prevent this from happening. In what is akin to first issuing expired parking tickets, and then installing the parking meters, Larry Matel, P.E. (Pedestrian Exterminator?)–Managing Engineer, Transportation issued a memo on May 27 to Judge James Doctor, Lt. Pete Fisher and Mike Meacham.

A hazard to all

In celebration of our nation’s birthday on the Fourth of July each year, we’ve been brainwashed into thinking that it’s patriotic to set off fireworks. We need to rethink this very dangerous practice.

Can we wave it too much?

Is it possible to wave the flag too much? Provided, of course, that you wave it with integrity. Is it possible to study Lincoln or Shakespeare too much? Is it possible to read the Bible too much? I believe not. These are great examples of inspiration and strength. We are not waving our flag enough. Not nearly enough.

Change Washington can believe in: Dino Rossi

I would like to ask this of all citizens of Washington state, “Do you feel safe in your community?” “Do you feel safe walking in the evening in our parks and downtown areas?” I’m not a supporter of Barack Obama, but he may have it right when he says, “We need change we can believe in.”

I’m not sure what motivated some to say to Goodwill you have to leave and find a new place. I find it very sad that Goodwill had to leave Silverdale so the mall could get more parking for customers.

Liberal judges take too many liberties with Constitution

Judicial actions by democratically appointed liberal judges are slowly tearing apart the Constitution and this great nation. Democrats and liberals for decades have constantly assaulted the first amendment, second amendment and marriage. Their judges convolute and haze every word of the constitution to fit their political agenda.

Loss of pee wee godfather big for Silverdale

Last week, Silverdale lost an important and integral member of the community. Cornelius “Pete” Ross Jr. died June 10 at the age of 75, but his memory will live on through Ross Field and the hundreds of kids who play on the field each year. Mr. Ross and his wife of 55 years, Dona, were steadfast in the creation of the ballfields.
