Gordy and Lori Petersen, owners of Friday Harbor Center at Spring and First streets, have opened The Bean coffee shop. The Bean is the successor of The Naked Bean, and features an entirely remodeled interior.

Pam Fry has joined the staff at Spa d Bune, 669 Mullis St., Friday Harbor. Fry practices High Touch Jin Shin Acupressure; she is available by appointment at 370-5027.

Peace of Mind Pet Sitting expands into farm, house sitting

Peace of Mind Pet Sitting has expanded into farm and house sitting. Peace of Mind is owned by Jaileen Panger, a professional pet sitter who is certified in pet first aid and CPR, and is soon to be accredited with Pet Sitters International. She is trained by American Humane to shelter animals in an emergency, and she is looking into getting certified in large animal rescue by the Washington State Animal Response Team.

Bison Gallery doubles space in move to former Garuda & I site; Compost It is moving to roomier digs next door

Bison Gallery has moved from 65 Nichols St. to 60 First St., the space formerly occupied by Garuda & I. Meanwhile, Compost It is moving next door from 115 Nichols St. to the space vacated by Bison Gallery.

'Warehouse' is now 'Criminal Coffee': 'Our espresso is wanted,' new owner says

Warehouse Coffee, 301 Tucker Ave., has new owners. Look for more changes and a new name. Ramona Hayes and Cory Eglash bought Warehouse Coffee from Dwight Ware on Feb. 8. Clinton Mills, who bought the business from Ware in September, stopped making payments in January and closed shop, Ware said. He had changed the business name to Solid Grounds Coffee Shop, added karaoke, expanded the menu, and applied for a license to sell beer and wine. But the license application didn't sit well with Ware or community members concerned about beer and wine being sold so close to Friday Harbor High School.

Islands Convalescent Center hosts open house Feb. 24; meet the new administrator, nursing director, marketing director

Joseph Foriska is head chef at Friday Harbor House's The Bluff

The Bluff Restaurant·Bar·Terrace at Friday Harbor House has appointed Joseph Foriska as chef. “As a resident of the San Juan Islands for more than 15 years, Chef Foriska brings to the table a familiarity of the San Juan Island culinary community and strong relationships with local purveyors,” Friday Harbor House GM Michael O’Dell said in a press release.

Village at the Harbour hires new director of marketing

Deanna Osborn is the new director of marketing and director of activities at Village at the Harbour assisted living community in Friday Harbor. Osborn has worked with seniors for 19 years. She joined Village at the Harbour in November 2007 as the activity director and resident assistant. She was recently promoted to director of marketing/activities.

Island Air receives Five Star Safety Award from Phoenix Aviation Managers Inc.

Island Air, an air charter company based in Friday Harbor, has received the Five Star Safety Award from Phoenix Aviation Managers Inc. The award was presented in Friday Harbor on Feb. 4. Island Air has been insured by Phoenix Aviation Managers for more than eight years and has received the most safety awards ever given to a Phoenix-insured air carrier.
