Vikings volleyball looks ahead to post-season playoffs

The Vikings volleyball team is entering post-season on a roll, winning seven of their last nine matches, good enough for third place overall. The team now has the rest of the week to prepare for the upcoming NW 2B League Tournament.

Wrestlers gear up for second season

With a larger workout facility and more mat space, the Orcas Island Wrestling Club is anxious to start the 2011 Folkstyle season in November.

Vikings mill Darrington Loggers

The Vikings improved to 2-2 in league play and are in position for a second place finish in the Northwest-Seatac League. Second place finish would qualify them for the playoffs. Their two league losses were both by one point including a double overtime loss to the undefeated Crusaders from Tacoma Baptist.

Orcas Kings football team on to the playoffs

By Erika Harlow On an early, rainy Saturday morning the Orcas Kings departed for what could have been their last football game of the season. Facing the La Conner Braves, they were fighting for a post season spot. Upon winning the coin toss the Kings opted to kick off and come out with their hard-hitting defense. On the first play Aidan Kruse was able to strip the ball, and teammate Miles Harlow recovered the fumble. Together with Kruse, the Kings defense is led by Ryan Flint, William Lewis and Owen Thurman. The Kings played the rest of the half in Braves territory, managing a strong La Conner defense. At halftime the score remained 0-0. The sky had cleared for this football game but the field remained soggy, muddy and full of puddles.

Lopez athletics: football team undefeated, volleyball winning, soccer building experience

Lopez School is bent upon dispelling the myth that a small student enrollment is less likely to yield competitive athletic teams. With a K-12 enrollment of just over 200 students and 125 students 6-12, the athletic teams of Lopez School are doing very well. The number of students turning out for sports at Lopez continues to far exceed the state average, with approximately 80 percent of Lopez High School students participating in sports. The football team has 22 athletes turning out, grades 8-12. Volleyball is suiting up 16 athletes, and soccer boasts 23 athletes on the field. The Middle School teams are also experiencing a good turnout for fall sports.

Lopez football player Tommy Kramer named 'athlete of the week' by Seattle Times

Lopez High School senior and Lobo football player Tommy Kramer was recognized as a WIAA/Seattle Times "athlete of the week" in the 1B division this fall. Kramer, a senior, was recognized for his performance in a 56-20 win over Muckleshoot Tribal. He generated 264 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries, caught three passes for 91 yards and two scores and made 15 tackles and two fumble recoveries during the game.

The Vikings varsity team won all three matches against Friday Harbor during a home game on Oct. 18.

Girls soccer: Friday Harbor Wolverines wrassle down Orcas Vikings

The lady Vikings treated their fans to a display of ferocious determination and team spirit against the Friday Harbor Wolverines on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Dahl Field. The Vikings held steady for much of the first half, repelling Wolverine attacks. But Friday Harbor pressure remained fast and furious, and during the second half the score steadily climbed.

The Viking volleyball team hit the trifecta during a busy Homecoming week, winning all three of their matches against league opponents.
