Bellevue man to Carlson: You're killing me, John

I am afraid my wife is going to cancel our subscription (free, though it is) to the Bellevue Reporter. Every time I read John Carlson’s commentary, my blood pressure shoots up. I’m too old for this kind of stress, John. You have to stop tormenting me.

Cancer survivors: Thanks, Relay supporters

On behalf of my wife, a cancer survivor, and myself who is surviving cancer, I would like to thank everyone who participated in Bellevue’s second annual “American Cancer Society Relay for Life” on Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8. We were deeply touched by the respect shown all of us in the purple “Survivor” T-shirts and surprised to see the large amount of young people (teenagers) in attendance.

Blackstrom’s words touched me

I have just read Walter Blackstrom’s opinion, “No Excuses in 2008,” which is in the June 18 edition of The Bellevue Reporter and I want to say “thank you” to Mr. Blackstrom.

Letters Carlson misses boat on cars, mileage

John Carlson seems to have missed the BTU boat when he cites Wired’s “Inconvenient Truths” in “WIRED magazine: going green perhaps not all it’s cracked up to be.” When a used vehicle is traded for a new one, the carbon debt already been amassed. Happened as soon as the new Prius or Hummer or whatever got built.

Biodiesel is still a better fuel choice

Stop with this propaganda being spewed by the likes of Reagan Dunn about biodiesel. As someone who has used 100 percent biodiesel for seven years, I must reply to this irrational grouping of biodiesel in the same category such as ethanol. There is a concerted effort by the media, politicians and industries to trash biofuels and it is just wrong.

Time to quit being bashful, get out and vote, Sammamish Dems

My message to Sammamish is that this year’s elections are too important to worry about being popular. If, like me, you support Obama, Gregoire, Burner, and other Washington State Democratic candidates for public office, now is the time to use our voices to speak up for change. We have to do everything in our power to effect the “change we believe in.” I challenge us all to answer the call and do more than just speak up.

City has lost sight of community for dollar signs

The Planning Commission appears to have made a counter proposal to Touchstone. In exchange for building height around the park and a portion of 85th Street, they may be willing to allow 11-story buildings. I am dumbfounded by this and even now cannot find the words to express my disbelief and sadness. It appears that our city officials have so lost sight of our community in exchange for dollars.

Greenberg humor column crossed the line

A recent column entitled “Pre-school picking angst: Where to put my pro-athletes-to-be?” went against this established grain. I’m certain Mr. Greenberg meant no harm, but he certainly managed to disparage teachers with his style of humor.

The oversized (Parkplace) plan is irresponsible. Much like fast-food term “Supersize,” it will bloat the city of Kirkland. The city will be come unrecognizable as the “quaint” waterside village that attracts those who live here.

If Kirkland expands downtown, couple is leaving

Our small complex of six buildings of four units each (Kirkland Parkplace Condominiums behind the Post Office) was purchased because we loved the location, the quiet, the ease to access the downtown area of art galleries, eateries, waterfront, freeways, etc. In the 19 years we have been residents here the town has taken on a much different feel, and with the proposed additions and rezoning it will be ever changed. We will find another small town that offers those things to its residents/visitors.
