The marathon of hearings on the two YarrowBay developments, The Villages and Lawson Hills, continued through this week and appears to be nearing the finish line.

Black Diamond public safety levy on April 27 ballot

The city of Black Diamond has placed a public safety levy on the April 27 ballot and Police Chief Jamey Kiblinger said passing the measure is critical. The proposition failed by 11 votes in the November 2009 general election, and supporters are hoping the second time around will be the charm.

Boys treated for accidental laceration | Black Diamond Fire Blotter

Mountain View Fire and Rescue emergency personnel received a call concerning an 8-year-old boy who had cut himself while playing with an ax at about noon March 6 near 176th Avenue Southeast. The emergency workers found the boy had a 2-inch laceration and he was dizzy and nauseous. The boy was treated at the scene and then transported to an area hospital by his grandparents.

Citizens' board meeting looks at changing boundaries for some Kent School District elementary schools

A collection of Kent School District elementary schools could have boundary changes, due to fluctuations in their student populations. A citizens' board will have its first meeting about that issue 7 p.m. Monday, March 15 at the Kent School District office, 12033 S.E. 256th St. The meeting of the community group, called the 2010 Citizens' Elementary Boundary Committee, is open to the public, although public comment will not be taken.

Family escapes early morning house fire in Kent

According to a Kent Fire Department press release, at 3:53 a.m. firefighters from Kent and South King Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a residential fire on the 23800 Block of 38th Ave South. The dispatcher reported smoke and flames were visible from a bedroom window. Crews on their arrival confirmed fire had “popped” a bedroom window and was extending to the exterior of the home.

Child approached by suspicious man in Black Diamond

The Black Diamond Police Department reported at 6:30 p.m. March 10 a child riding his bicycle home from the area of the city skate park was approached by a black male driving an older black unknown make or model pickup truck with a red stripe painted on the tailgate. The police information regarding the incident indicated the male driver stopped in the roadway and told the child to “get in."

Hearings continue in Black Diamond for The Villages and Lawson Hills developments

After months of anticipation, anxiety and sometimes anger the appeals hearing on the final environmental impact statement or FEIS for The Villages and Lawson Hills master planned developments began Saturday and continued Monday and Tuesday.
