Bothell buzzer-beater stuns Vikings: Cougs pull out another close win over Inglemoor

The Bothell High boys basketball team (7-5, 11-6) has proven one thing true to its fans this season in 4A Kingco league play — don’t ever leave early. Never was that truth so evident than on Tuesday night in the Cougar Den, as its second matchup against Northshore rival Inglemoor, much like the first, came down to the final shot in a thrilling 58-56 Bothell victory.

Three Bothell seniors sign NLIs to play collegiate sports

In a signing ceremony on Feb. 1 at Bothell High School, three Cougar seniors signed National Letters of Intent to play sports at the next level. Alisyn Cundiff, a forward for the Bothell soccer team and first-team all-Kingco selection, signed with Central Washington University; Austen Dahl, the starting quarterback for the Cougars' football team, is headed to Humboldt State; and Trent Sewell, one of the state's most highly touted receivers, will play for the University of Wyoming.

The Bothell High gymnastics team was locked in a thrilling battle with Inglemoor last Thursday in their final 4A Kingco meet of the season, with the Cougars pulling out a slim 168.235-167.35 win over the Vikings. Garfield also attended the meet and finished with 117.70 team points.

The Inglemoor High girls' basketball team earned its eighth and ninth-straight victories last weekend in wins over Roosevelt (69-31) on Friday and Skyline (68-54) on Saturday. On Friday, a solid defensive effort held the Roughriders to no more than eight points per quarter, while the Vikings, led by Taylor Peacocke (19 points) and Chay Fuller (15) broke the game open early.

The Inglemoor High girls' basketball team had lots of defense and offense on Wednesday night in a 4A Kingco road game against Ballard, routing the Beavers 60-28. The Vikings led 30-13 at the half and continued to add on to their lead.

Bothell's Studley wins national cycling championship, 'Coach of the Year' award

Bothell resident Kari Studley, a Northshore High School mountain bike team head coach and leading physical therapist out of Kenmore's Corpore Sano Phyiscal Therapy, recently won the "Coach of the Year" award at the 2011 National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) Awards.

The Cougar boys' basketball team pulled out another one-point win on Tuesday night on the road against Roosevelt, a 63-62 overtime thriller. It was the team's fourth victory by a single point it its last five games, and the red-hot Cougars have now won six of their last seven.

League schedules updated: Bothell, Inglemoor boys play tonight

With all the weather-related cancellations last week, the local prep sports leagues had to do a lot of schedule shuffling to make up all the missed games. Here is the updated varsity basketball schedule for the remainder of the 2011-12 regular season, including tonight's 4A Kingco games, Bothell playing on the road against Roosevelt and Inglemoor also playing away at Ballard, both start at 7:30 p.m.

Inglemoor Viking grapplers have their sights set high

The Inglemoor High wrestling team, a perennial 4A Kingco power, is usually well-represented at the Tacoma Dome’s Mat Classic, the state wrestling tournament. The 2011-12 season looks to be no exception, as the Viks have a number of talented and hungry varsity returners itching to get on the state medal podium. “I’ve been really impressed,” said Paul Schulfer, who took over the team this year after longtime coach Kevin Corbett retired from coaching high school wrestling. “It’s a good group. They’re picking up things easily and working really hard.”
