Kenmore takes Family Circle top-10 honors

Mayor David Baker knew about the honor for a week or so, but kept it under wraps. But now it's official: Family Circle magazine has named the city of Kenmore one of the 10 best towns and cities across the country for families. The city will be featured in the August issue that will hit newsstands July 7.

Kirkland firefighters respond to Bothell blaze

Kirkland, Bothell and Northshore firefighters responded to a Monday afternoon fire on 93rd Street Northeast in Bothell. According to Kirkland Fire Department public-information officer Robin Paster, the male adult renter and his son returned home to discover an upstairs room ablaze, called 911 at 1:30 p.m. and the renter sprayed the fire with a hose. Thirteen units responded within six minutes and put out the fire. Paster said the renter cut his shin and the son suffered a lacerated hand. Paster added that the family may have lost a few reptiles in their collection. About an hour after the blaze began, two turtles walked on the lawn — unharmed.

Mildred Mandeville, who turned 100 years old June 20, enjoyed a 30-minute complimentary Kenmore Air birthday flight June 22 with her daughter, two grandsons, nurse and others. The Woodinville resident flew seaplanes rented from Kenmore Air in the late 1940s. She last flew in a seaplane in 1951.
