Arlington mom rappels down Rainier Tower to benefit Special Olympics

Sandy Catiis was nervous when she climbed the Rainier Tower, but her son kept her motivated. “I thought of how many challenges Josh faces on a daily basis,” said Catiis, an Arlington resident. “I should be able to face this fear, be brave and complete the challenge at hand. For the Arlington Eagles Special Olympic Team — my inspiration — I did it.”

Sittin’ Pretti car show rolls into Arlington

Close to 250 cars, trucks, hot rods and dragsters returned to the Arlington Airport for the annual “Sittin’ Pretti” car Aug. 21, as auto enthusiasts from as far away as Canada, Montana and California turned out to help out a local community organization.

Stilly Senior Center honors Yolanda Larsen

For Yolanda Larsen, it’s family first. So when four of her eight children came home with notes saying they needed to each bring four dozen cookies to school, she made 16 dozen cookies. For her efforts, Larsen, who’s volunteered countless hours in community and parent groups in Arlington for more than 50 years, will be receiving the Stillaguamish Senior Center’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

‘Summer Slam’ car show coming to Arlington August 21

Car enthusiasts will soon be able to get their automotive salivary glands going. The Sittin Pretti “Summer Slam” car show, which spotlights slammed mini-trucks and sport compact cars, will be available for motor-heads and their families at the Arlington Municipal Airport on Aug. 21.

Fundraisers to replace Lake Goodwin Park playground

STANWOOD — With support from local businesses, the Lake Goodwin Community Club and Snohomish County Parks and Recreation will kick off efforts to rebuild the Lake Goodwin Community Park playground destroyed by arson last month. Snohomish County Parks and the Lake Goodwin Community Club will co-host a barbecue and fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 22 at Lake Goodwin Park, located at 4620 Lakewood Rd. in Stanwood.

Marysville breakdancers bust a move for upcoming YMCA competition

Close to 30 area breakdancers stepped up Aug. 6 to promote the Marysville YMCA's upcoming 360 B-Boy, B-Girl and Emcee Battle, and they did it with an assist from Marysville Regal Cinemas. The theater hosted the breakdancing demonstration from 7-10 p.m.
